Rey Mysterio Update

Former WWE and World champion Rey Mysterio is certainly close to returning to World Wrestling Entertainment, PWInsider.com has confirmed.
Mysterio and WWE are involved in ongoing discussions for his return to the company after his surprise appearance at the Royal Rumble received such a massive reaction from fans in Philadelphia last month. Mysterio returned in absolutely phenomenal shape and impressed those backstage. Triple H is said to be main negoiater in the Mysterio deal.
Sports Illustrated reported yesterday that Mysterio would be facing John Cena at WrestleMania 34.
PWInsider.com is reporting that those are rumors, and cannot confirm that story is correct and are only making mention it due to the overwhelming conversation regarding this.
There is also a story making the rounds, that Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated reported that Mysterio was at last night’s Smackdown Live taping in Los Angeles to negotiate a new WWE deal. While Mysterio and WWE are currently in talks, PWInsider.com states they have been told by several sources that Mysterio was not actually in LA last night.
As PWInsider.com reported in January, Rey’s Rumble appearance was a one-night deal that was put together the week of the PPV. WWE and Mysterio have had discussions since Mysterio departed the company in 2015, but the major sticking point was that the star did not want to work a full-time schedule, while WWE had been pushing for Mysterio to do so.
Mysterio is currently set to wrestle, wrestling legend Jushin Liger on the 3/25 New Japan Pro Wrestling “Strong Style Evolved” event in Long Beach, California, however signing a WWE deal would preclude him from making additional appearances for New Japan Pro Wrestling.
My Thoughts:
This is certainly different than what made the rounds last night. While I do believe Mysterio and WWE are in talks my guess is it will be a post Wrestlemania addition. With his match set for NJPW just weeks prior to WrestleMania, my guess is he would be a return on Raw or Smackdown. For what it’s worth I’m still in the camp that Cena and Undertaker will wrestle at the show of shows.

Steve Maclin Cleared for In-Ring Return After TNA Sacrifice Knockout
Steve Maclin has been cleared to return to in-ring action following the knockout he suffered at TNA Sacrifice. On April 22, 2026, Maclin announced on social media, “AIN’T FOUND A WAY TO KILL ME YET. Cleared & ready to get back to work,” confirming he was not diagnosed with a concussion and is ready to resume competition.
The injury occurred early in his World Championship match against Mike Santana when a superkick put Maclin out, leading officials to stop the contest and Eddie Edwards to rush out and brawl with Santana. Referee Alice Lane received praise for her quick recognition of the situation as TNA tended to Maclin and ultimately ruled the match thrown out.
