Becky Lynch Is A Heel Whether Fans Believe It Or Not

Published

on

Becky Lynch is the hottest heel in WWE today. That statement can be denied, it can be argued and it can be dissected from start to finish. In fact it has been and that will likely continue for the duration of her current run on SmackDown Live.

Many fans want to believe that heels and babyfaces do not matter anymore in pro wrestling and especially in WWE. They feel that it’s an outdated concept, best kept for the smoke-filled arenas of the territories in the 1980’s. To them, the hero and villain dynamic is pointless and has no place in today’s modern era of professional wrestling.

But no matter how often critics want to dispute the validity of good versus evil and right versus wrong, the truth is that the foundation of it is still there. It will always be there and if it wasn’t, this would no longer be pro wrestling. That’s because when everything else strips away, the business is about good versus evil and right versus wrong. Even shades of gray are not enough to change that.

This is evident in Becky’s case, as her story is still unfolding. She was Charlotte Flair’s best friend and the two supported each other through thick and thin. In spite of all the drama happening around them or to them individually, Flair and Lynch were in this together.

But then Charlotte returned to SmackDown Live and was added to Becky’s title match at SummerSlam. In that moment, Becky’s heel turn began. She believed that Charlotte’s ego had taken over and suddenly their friendship meant nothing. Becky saw this intrusion as a betrayal and she wouldn’t let it go unanswered.

Of course common sense says that in the reality of pro wrestling, it’s every woman for herself. If a Superstar wants to get to the top, then she has to take every opportunity given to her and make the best of it. If Charlotte had declined the opportunity to compete for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at SummerSlam and Lynch had lost, then what? Would Becky still be a babyface right now?

In Becky’s mind, Charlotte crossed a line that cannot be uncrossed. Charlotte simply did what anyone in her position would have done but that’s of little consequence now. Becky Lynch is a heel and a heel’s perspective is much different than everyone else.

Fans know all of this of course, just as they know that WWE is using the whole FairPlay point to bolster Charlotte as the babyface of the story but to no avail. In fact it really doesn’t matter what Flair says at this point, she’s going to be hated. She is hated and that’s okay.

The WWE faithful has its favorites and that’s just how it is. Becky is a huge favorite and that’s understandable. She was also a favorite before she turned on Charlotte and she’s even more relevant now that she ever has been. But for anyone to believe that she’s not a heel perhaps is not paying attention to the way WWE is booking her.

She sneak attacks Charlotte. She mocks her and she belittles her on TV. Becky Lynch had the opportunity, just as Flair did, to compete for the title and just like Charlotte before her, Becky won. Lynch could have taken that victory and moved on to the next opponent, leaving Charlotte far behind.

But instead Becky keeps provoking Flair. Lynch has beaten Charlotte and Charlotte has every reason to keep chasing the gold but it’s Becky that keeps coming back for more. Lynch proved her point when she beat Charlotte at Hell in a Cell and that could have been the end of it. But it’s not, because Becky’s obsession is proving that she’s better than Charlotte.

It’s gone far beyond the championship now. For Becky Lynch, this feud is about disgracing Charlotte and leaving her for dead as often as possible. Becky had the title in her sights, she won it and she’s on top now. She has everything she wanted and she could be spending her time proving she’s the best against every single female Superstar on the blue brand. But she won’t do that because she only cares about taking down the woman she’s already beaten. This is the definition of a heel, pure and simple.

This is how the company books Becky and to further prove that point, even WWE Hall of Famer Edge himself could not get through to her. Edge, who has the respect of fans and who typically never receives criticism for anything, could not convince Lynch that she’s doing the wrong thing. The crowd did not turn on Becky for mocking him and in fact, she was cheered during The Cutting Edge.

But just because WWE made the effort to heel Becky out again does not mean it was the most ideal effort. Edge was one of the most notorious heels in WWE history. He was the ultimate opportunist and he took every avenue available to get to the top. He was as devious as any heel on the roster and this is the man that WWE brought in to talk some sense into Becky Lynch?

However despite how many times the company tries to salvage Lynch’s heel turn and fails, the point is that the work is taking place. WWE wants the fans to hate Becky. That was the plan from day one and everything the company has done proves that. Fans may not want to play along, but that does not change the facts. Becky Lynch is a heel and that’s just how it is.

But fans want to love her, so that truth is denied. Fans want to hate Roman Reigns so they lie to themselves and claim that he’s really a heel anyway. Charlotte is the daughter of The Dirtiest Player in the Game but she does nothing to heel out against Becky. Yet, fans hate her anyway. Just like Roman, fans believe WWE is pushing Charlotte as a face on them and they don’t want that. Once again, the audience disregards the truth in favor of controlling the narrative.

The point is that WWE is not going to change the way it does business. Fans can believe whatever they want and the company itself can suggest anything it wants. But it’s all in the execution and the timing. It was not the right time to turn Becky heel, just as the time came and went to turn Roman heel but WWE did nothing.

The fact that fans can’t determine which way is up should be no mystery. The most well-laid plans tend to fail when WWE does not establish the most basic elements from the very beginning. That’s not on the fans, it’s on the company. No matter who’s right in this scenario, the truth is that fans are enjoying the ride and that’s what matters the most.

Chris King: A New Member of The Vision in WWE?

Chris King shares his thoughts on how WWE could add a brand new member of The Vision that will shock the WWE Universe to its core.

Chris King shares his thoughts on how WWE could add a brand new member of The Vision that will shock the WWE Universe to its core.

The Street Profits are a great tag team both Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins are charismatic superstars who have found the love and support from the fans for multiple years. The Profits are four-time tag team champions, and they are set to challenge Austin Theory and Logan Paul for the Raw Tag Team Championships at Saturday Night Main Event.

Ford and Dawkins arrived on the scene a few weeks go, to help Seth Rollins and his ongoing feud with The Vision. In several backstage segments, Ford has been very clear on their stance on Rollins and his backstabbing history. We’ve seen some aggression from Ford as well at times almost threatening ‘The Visionary’ for sticking his nose in their business. Dawkins and Ford aren’t helping Rollins they only want the tag team titles.

For years now, there have been a lot of speculation about Ford, the more charismatic one, to turn on Dawkins and become a singles superstar. Ford has all the tools and potential to become a singles champion in WWE but. It’s never come to fruition yet. I don’t see The Profits winning the tag team titles at Main Event which could infuriate Ford that much more especially, if Rollins is the reason for their loss. It seems as if after the event, Rollins, Dawkins, and a reluctant Ford will battle Bron Breakker, Austin Theory, and Logan Paul in a huge six-man tag team match at Clash in Italy.

What it during the match, Rollins tags himself into the match after Ford is about to seal the deal with a triumphant victory, and Ford loses it. Dawkins could try to calm his tag team partner down but, Ford blasts him in the back of the head. With the numbers game already in effect, The Vision could pick up the scraps and secure the victory. Ford then shocks the world and joins The Vision right then and there. Ford and Dawkins could have a mini-feud but, the real money feud would be Ford vs. Rollins

Ford as a heel singles superstar opens up so many possibilities in WWE. He could easily challenge for the Intercontinental Championship and have a long reign with it. Ford under the mentorship of Paul Heyman, would be a dangerous scene on Monday Nights. The Vision could use a new member with Bronson Reed out with an injury and, Ford would be a great addition to the dominant group.

Chris King’s WWE Backlash 2026 Takeaways

Chris King breaks down WWE Backlash 2026, featuring Jacob Fatu challenging Roman Reigns and more!

WWE Backlash 2026 Jacob Fatu Roman Reigns

Chris King breaks down WWE Backlash 2026, featuring Jacob Fatu challenging Roman Reigns and more!

Chris King has gone back and rewatched WWE’s latest PLE Backlash and is dissecting the
matches. Bron Breakker looks to defeat Seth Rollins and prove he’s ready for the spotlight; Trick
Williams defends his United States Championship against Sami Zayn; Iyo Sky looks to defeat
her former mentor Asuka; and Jacob Fatu challenges Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight
Championship in a family affair!

Seth Rollins VS. Bron Breakker

This match was orchestrated together so perfectly with Rollins utilizing his fast-paced offense to
begin the match and outsmart the young up-and-comer. Breakker was able to showcase his
insane strength at the perfect times, which kept his rival down.

The more Rollins kicks out, the more frustrated Breakker gets as he trash-talks his former Vision
leader. Breakker hit a stunning Frankensteiner off the top rope for a near fall.
‘The Visionary’ intercepted a massive spear on the outside with a nasty-looking superkick.
Breakker should not be able to move this fast as he blasts Rollins with a clothesline. The
veteran was setting up for The Stomp, but Breakker laid his head where he could only deliver a
stiff kick. Rollins tried to counter an attack, but his body couldn’t follow through. Rollins hit a
buckle bomb on his opponent. Breakker took out his opponent with a massive splash onto
Rollins over the announce table. The young upstart countering Rollins’s patented Superplex into
a Falcon’s Arrow of his own was incredible.

Breakker went to the wheel too many times as Rollins landed on his feet from another
Frankensteiner. Rollins has mastered the art of being able to counter a Spear into a pedigree
like no other. Logan Paul and Austin Theory tried to interfere, but The Visionary was prepared.
Breakker thought it was over with a massive spear. Rollins went for a Super Stomp, but it was
intercepted by a Spear. A huge Spear sealed the deal for the young up-and-comer!

  • This was a great match with tons of drama and textbook wrestling. The veteran was
trying to prove that the young upstart wasn’t ready for the main event. Breakker utilized
his insane speed and freakish power to get the biggest win of his career. The
interference by The Vision signifies that Rollins and The Street Profits will face off in a
six-man tag team match in the near future. Under the mentorship of Paul Heyman,
Breakker will be the main event of WrestleMania in the near future!

Trick Williams VS. Sami Zayn (United States Championship)

Trick Williams made his million-dollar entrance with the Tampa crowd chanting “Whoop That
Trick.” Everything this man touches turns to gold, including the gingerbread man’s funeral
segment on the go-home episode of Friday Night SmackDown.

The irate challenger tried to gain the advantage early, but Trick was not having it. Zayn rolled outside to stop the champion’s momentum, but it didn’t work. The challenger threw Trick headfirst onto the steel steps.

Trick continues to prove why he’s one of the fastest-rising superstars in a long time. A Blue
Thunder Bomb almost gave Zayn the victory, but only a two-count. He feigned an injury to
sucker the champion and hit him with a candy cane behind the referee’s back. Zayn continued
his descent into a full-fledged heel as he used more aggressive moves and even attacked Lil
Yachty on the outside. Trick countered another knee strike and delivered Trick Shot for the
victory.

  • Trick successfully retained his United States Championship against a game Sami Zayn.
He continues to prove why he’s the future of WWE. Zayn continues to portray a more
aggressive character, and using cheap tactics to try and win the title screams “heel.”
Despite Zayn saying that he has ride-or-die fans, the Tampa crowd was booing the hell
    out of him.
  • Trick’s next title defense should be against Carmelo Hayes, who never got his rematch
after losing the title to Zayn.

Danhausen & Minihausen VS. The Miz & Kit Wilson

Danhausen arrived in his Danhausen mobile and opened his cloning machine to reveal the
MiniHausen for this tag team match, as The Miz and Kit Wilson were already in the ring. The
MiniHausen is actually El Torito, who was the mascot for Los Matadores back in 2013. This was
a fun little match where, of course, we saw MiniHausen start things off with some surprising
luchador high-flying action. The heels got frustrated and beat down the little man until
Danhausen made the tag.

Despite not being in the match for more than a minute, DanHausen is out of breath. After some
quick offense, Miz and Wilson take the fight to their enemy on the outside. MiniHausen took
them both out with a mini suicide dive. Wilson threw MiniHausen back into the cloning machine,
which caused a plethora of MiniHausens to come out, which was hilarious. MiniHausen took out
Wilson on the outside, and DanHausen hit his signature Pump Kick for the victory!

  • I’ve been saying this for years: everything The Miz touches turns to gold. His
commitment to this DanHausen storyline has been incredible. He’s once again proved
that he can make every angle/storyline fantastic and a must-see.
  • I am quite impressed with how WWE has handled Danhausen over the last few months.
His segments have been hilarious and very entertaining. I could easily see the new
fan-favorite possibly winning a mid-card title by the end of the year or possibly at
WrestleMania. I am a FanHausen of this DanHausen!

Iyo Sky VS. Asuka

Asuka has been portraying this maniacal and jealous heel over the past year. Playing an
integral part in Iyo Sky’s torn relationship with Kairi Sane. Unfortunately, due to her release, this
story is only being told by Sky and Asuka, but both Japanese superstars did not disappoint. This
was the case of anything you can do, I can do better. The mentor tried to silence her protégé in
their first PLE match.

Asuka played her role perfectly as the overconfident heel cutting off her opponent at every turn,
and Sky was the resilient babyface trying to put Asuka in her place. This is a MOTY candidate
that ended with Sky finally getting the best of her opponent and getting some justice for Kairi
wherever she is. Both superstars showed each other respect after an instant classic!

  • I wish WWE could’ve gotten Kairi Sane for this beautiful storybook ending of this feud.
She’s the missing piece of the puzzle, but Asuka and Iyo Sky told an incredible story
    together as mentor and protégé.
  • This felt like a goodbye for Asuka, and days after her Instagram post, maybe it was. I’m
not exactly sure where Sky goes from here. Maybe she gets into the Women’s World
Championship picture and challenges Liv Morgan. Stephanie Vaquer will return soon,
and there’s a perfect triple threat on the horizon!

John Cena Segment

  • It’s always great to see the never-seen seventeen GOAT in the WWE, no matter what it
is for. The John Cena Classic, being an annual event, will start off strong, but sadly, I
fear the WWE universe will shit all over it. The new rising superstars of NXT facing the
best superstars from the main roster has fantastic potential. I would like to see Mayson
Rook VS. Kevin Owens, Tony DeAngelo VS. Seth Rollins, and Naruku VS. Shinsuke
Nakamura. I’m excited that the fans decide the winner like a Cyber Sunday-esque event.

Roman Reigns VS. Jacob Fatu (World Heavyweight Championship)

Roman Reigns and Jacob Fatu had a brutal war over the top prize in professional wrestling. For
several weeks leading up to the PLE, ‘The Samoan Werewolf’ has obliterated ‘The Tribal Chief’
and made it look scarily easy. Fatu used The Tongan Death Grip to get his title shot at Backlash.
Everyone said that Reigns was going to beat the brakes off his opponent, but that wasn’t the
case. I’ve never seen anyone take this much damage and keep getting up.

Fatu took the world champion’s best and still kicked out at one after a devastating Spear. Reigns
had to resort to heel tactics as he took off the turnbuckle pad and slammed his challenger
headfirst and then hit another massive Spear for the victory. Immediately afterwards, though,
The Samoan Werewolf annihilated his cousin and anyone else in his path, including Adam
Pearce and the security team. Fatu stood over an unconscious Reigns, posing with the World
Heavyweight Championship to close the show!

  • We all knew Reigns wasn’t losing his title in his first title defense, but this was the perfect
ending to protect Fatu. The champion having to resort to nefarious tactics shows just
how dangerous his opponent is and how desperate Reigns was to retain the world title.
  • This booking also keeps the door wide open for an impending battle in the near future,
possibly at Clash in Italy. After being humiliated by Fatu, I can see a major stipulation
being added to their next family war.
