Matt Davis is back with his look at Ring of Honor on FITE TV Episode 421 featuring Jay Lethal vs. PJ Black!
Welcome ladies and gentlemen to Ring of Honor television! We open up with the ending of Death Before Dishonor a few weeks ago showing the moment Rush defeated Matt Taven for the ROH World Championship. Ian Riccaboni welcomes us to the episode, recapping that the company crowned two new world champions that night, also showing us that Angelina Love defeated Kelly Klein for the Women Of Honor Championship.
They tell us that tonight we will see PJ Black against Jay Lethal, who was originally scheduled to face Bandido but Bandido was injured at Death Before Dishonor, in our main event. Riccaboni adds that we are going to look at Rush’s brother, Dragon Lee, who says he will make Ring of Honor his new home. The former IWGP Jr Heavyweight Champion was featured in the ROH Six Man Tag Team Championship match at Death Before Dishonor and that’s where we begin
1) The Briscoe Brothers & Dragon Lee vs Villain Enterprises (Marty Scurll, PCO, & Brody King)
ROH SIX MAN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS
“Death Before Dishonor”
We start off in the middle of the action with a Jay Briscoe ripcord neckbreaker followed by Dragon Lee jumping off the top rope onto Brody King with a stomp to the heart, followed by a Mark Briscor Froggy Bow, Jay with a quick cover and Brody King kicks out! Cut to Scurll who tries a superkick to Jay Briscoe but he ducks and Scurll nails King in the jaw! Mark jumps off the apron with a blockbuster to Scurll! Cut to Scurll launching PCO over the top rope to his opponents with a cannonball crushing everyone in sight! Cut to PCO with a cannonball off the top rope across the head and neck of Mark Briscoe extended across the apron! Dragon Lee with a hurricanrana off the apron to PCO, Scurll superkicks Lee off the apron! Scurll looking for the crossface chickenwing which gets a great reaction from the live crowd, but no, Mark Briscoe with an inside cradle..one..two..no! LARIAT BY SCURLL! Double underhook suplex which he calls the Black Plague, he hooks the leg and gets the win for Villain Enterprises!
Winners: Villain Enterprises
Grade: N/A
Thoughts: So… they use this match to tell us about Dragon Lee, who did all of two moves in this brief clipped match. What was the point in that to showcase your newest talent? His team didn’t even win. Whoever runs the production team didn’t think this one through at all. I’m speechless at the logic of that one.
Jay Lethal is backstage talking about how he didnt prepare for PJ Black, he spent time preparing for Bandido for his first round match (don’t forget, in episode #420, they told us that Jay Lethal won this match and will wrestle at Glory by Honor in the semi-finals). He calls PJ Black lucky because he has everything to gain here, being added in at the last second. Jay Lethal says he would love to become ROH World Champion a third time, and he thinks it might just happen.
After a quick ad break, we are back with images of Angelina Love spraying cosmetic product in the face of the champion and getting the pin. Kelly Klein tells us that she’s not done with Love and she is coming for her and she knows where she is! Ian Riccaboni tells us that Kelly Klein will challenge Angelina Love at Glory by Honor. He also tells us that there is a 15 man #1 contender’s battle royal and the winner will face ROH World Champion Rush later that night. He runs down the card some more and tells us we will see Dalton Castle against PCO in the #1 Contender at Final Battle Tournament match, with the winner facing the winner of Scurll vs (Lethal/Black) and reminds us the latter match is our main event as if they didn’t say that less than 4 minutes ago.
We are welcomed to a brief recap of Death Before Dishonor given to us by “Wrestling With Wregret”‘s Brian Zane who is backstage and says he was reeling from DBD and he had the best seat in the house. He says his Top 5 favorite things from Death Before Dishonor were PCO absorbing the cattle prod, Beer City Bruiser being a human dartboard during a Bar Room Brawl with Vinny Marseglia throwing darts into the Bruiser’s back, Lifeblood’s Mark Haskins and Bandido challenging the The Briscoes, and Jay Briscoe ended the match with two Jay Drillers to retain, Jonathan Gresham submitting former two ROH World Champion Jay Lethal, Zane calling Gresham The Octopus of ROH, and his number one favorite moment was Matt Tave agaist Rush. He said Rush led a one man stampede against the leader of The Kingdom, and in the end Taven got the horns. Does anyone really believe him when he says that it was one of the best matches he’s ever seen though? Come on. Come on.
PJ Black is shown backstage, removing his shirt, and says he is very excited for tonight, and that due to injuries, he was able to replace Bandido in the tournament. He says his opponent is one of the best ever, one of ROH’s legends, saying he came to ROH to test himself against guys like Jay Lethal and didn’t think this opportunity could come this early. He says Always Bet On Black when in Vegas, he says all he needs to do is beat Jay Lethal, and then two more men to become ROH World Champion.
We are shown a victory by Coast 2 Coast at an unnamed event, but it happened in Las Vegas in the Sam’s Town Live, when Shaheem Ali pinned Cheeseburger with an inverted uranagi slam. A promo by Coast to Coast follows with LSG telling us that Coast 2 Coast are no longer young boys, and the company will soon recognize that. Ali says if someone has the tag belts, it doesn’t matter who it is, they’re coming to get them, LSG adds that there is a target on the champions back! Ali ends by saying Coast 2 Coast does the most, and they don’t play games.
Backstage at Death Before Dishonor, Quinn McKay stands with “Hotsauce” Tracy Williams as they prepare for his No Disqualification match against Flip Gordon. Williams says that Flip finally gave him what he wanted after months of cheap shots. He says Flip must feel he needs weapons but it won’t matter because he’s going to end this feud tonight, he will not hestitate to end this, and tells Flip Gordon to come prepared, and that he’s going to send Flip Gordon to the shelf for good.
2) Silas Young & Josh Woods vs Coast 2 Coast
This is an exclusive ROH Television match, featuring two teams that are chasing The Briscoe Brothers and a victory here could earn either team a champioship opportunity! Coast 2 Coast makes their entrance first. We are told Silas Young and Josh Woods went undefeated during the Global Wars Tour! We are told Silas Young doesn’t like how “nice” Josh Woods is, but decided to take him under his wings after winning the 2017 Top Prospect Tournament.
Young and LSG start us off, Young with some chain wrestling early on, LSG flips him inside out. Silas Young shows great athleticism with some kip ups trying to escape a wristlock. Multiple cradles for near falls by both men! Tag to Josh Woods with a snapmare, allowing LSG to tag in Ali. The big men square off, as the fans chant “Power Ranger” at Shaheem Ali. We are told wrestling Josh Woods on the mat is a mistake due to his MMA background, as Ali escapes a mount with a rope break as we fade to commercial.
Back to both men still in the ring, Ali trying to wrestle Woods again, Woods reverses a charge attack into a leg cradle for two. Caprice Coleman says that if he were wrestling someone with an amateur background, he’d kick him straight in the mouth. Woods and Young dominating Ali in their corner. Corner to corner splash by Young and tag to Woods, who knocks the wind out of Ali with a knee to the gut for a two count! Ali backs Woods up to the Coast 2 Coast corner as they double team Woods with cheap shots. Woods shoulder first ito the corner, double team slam into LSG’s knees. More double teaming behind the referees back. Woods tries to fight back, but gets driven to his opponents corner again. LSG taunts Young before charging into Woods in the corner. Woods with elbows to both of his opponents, blocks a clothesline into a t-bone suplex to LSG! Woods can’t make the tag as both men down. Both men make tags and Young sends Ali to the outside, clothlining LSG, Ali back in, catches knees to the face by Youg and a top rope assisted suplex for two! LSG with a springboard clothesline. LSG takes down Woods with a lucha tilt-a-whirl bulldog, Ali in and gets a gut wrench powerbomb on Josh Woods! They crush Silas Young in the corner. Woods with a Jumping Knee to Ali! Young blocks LSG off the ropes, backbreaker across the knee into the lariat combination! CHAOS THEORY BY JOSH WOODS! No pin! Young gets thrown outside by Shaheem Ali, Woods and Ali scrap, Woods with a powerslam, no Young catches Ali with a cutter from the elevated position with a double team and gets the win in just over 9 minutes of action.
Winners: Silas Young & Josh Woods
Grade: **
Thoughts: Josh Woods has now been in Ring of Honor several years, and he looks like he just started yesterday. He is crisp when it comes to grappling and takedowns, as that is his amateur background, but overall he is still a very raw product. Coast 2 Coast looked like a great team in the wrong place at the wrong time. They got some nice moves in, but there was no way they were beating Young and Woods tonight.
Backstage at Death Before Dishonor, Matt Taven is shown after the main event walking through the backstage area looking frustrated, tearing his tape off, wondering what’s next for him. We are then shown the end of Colt Cabana against Marty Scurll in the first round of the #1 Contender at Final Battle Tournament, with Scurll winning with the Black Plague. We are shown highlights of PCO defeating Kenny King to advance past the first round after sustaining a cattle prod to the throat, chokeslamming King anyway. Dalton Castle defeated Mark Haskins as well, as the former ROH World Champion won with the a Spinning Clutch Bulldog. We are told you can watch all that match on Youtube! Using a television to plug a Youtube Channel? Well, that’s new.
3) PJ Black vs Jay Lethal
First Round- #1 Contender at Final Battle Tournament
Lethal gets introduced as The Franchise, and he is trying to earn his way back to the championship he lost at Madison Square Garden in April. He is escorted by Jonathan Gresham. Streamers fly over the greatest champion in Ring of Honor history. Both men shake hands to start, giving us the code of honor. Nice.
Black with a standing switch go behind, meanwhile we are told that Gresham does have his manager’s license, because the Nevada State Athletic Commission is strict about that, Lethal and Black tie up into a wristlock, into a Lethal hammerlock. Black picks the lock ad reverses into a cradle for a quick kickout. We are told that Lethal wrestled almost 20 minutes the night before, and that Black is fresh after not competing at Death Before Dishonor. Toehold into a front facelock by PJ Black. Great wrestling here by the South African. Driven to the ropes, Black gives a clean break.
Hard tie up in the ring and Black gets a headlock, multiple leadfrogs by both men, and Black with a leg sweep into a lateral press, Lethal gives his own, arm drags, and a legsweep, Lethal dodges a double stomp and Lethal stares up at PJ Black who says it was that close. They square away again, Vintage Lethal after Lethal tosses Black with a hiptoss into a dropkick combo! Hard chop by Lethal but Lethal on the hunt as he abuses his opponent in the corner with kicks and chops. Lethal blocks a front face lock springboard tornado DDT ad dropkicks the knee of Black, he locks in a Figure Four! Black trying to reach for the ropes! Black has surgically repaired legs after a terrible car accident last year, being repaired with pins and metal rods. Black gets to the ropes, asai moonsault into a reverse DDT and holds on and transitions into a mounted dragon sleeper! Wow!
Snap suplex into a face lock into an stretch plum by Black trying to target the arm that Gresham ripped apart last night. Lethal gets a break and Black with kicks to the spine, cover and gets two, trying to gas Lethal on kickouts. Headscissors takedown into a step through inverted boston crab into a surfboard which he calls the South African Love Bucket as we fade to a break.
Black on top, gets dropkicked in the back by Lethal as he splits himself on the turnbuckle! Both men on top, back elbow by Black, Black threatens a 450 Splash but Lethal blocks with slaps and chops. Lethal now with a superplex but Black blocks. Both men still on top. Lethal with a superplex! Both men down as the referee starts to count. Both men to their feet as they exchange blows. Lethal with a knife edge chop! Black with a chop! Lethal with a chop! Black with a kick, Lethal with a slap, Black with forearms, and a spinning forearm stumbles Lethal. Off the ropes, Black to the apron, springboard dropkick sends Black outside, suicide dive through the ropes connects! Lethal rolls Black inside, Hail to the King OHH YEAHHH, Black blocks! Lethal Combination! Lethal back up top. Elbow smash connects! Hooks the leg and Black kicks out, so close! Both men reaching deep as they’re in the corner, Lethal with rights, Black reverses a whip, SPANISH FLY OFF THE TOP BY PJ BLACK! Two and a half! Springboard Moonsault Press connects– LETHAL KICKS OUT! Black tries the 450, and Lethal out of desperation knocks Black down. Both men up top. Black blocks a superplex with a headbutt. Double axe handle to the neck by Black. Both men fight and both men crash to the mat! PJ Black misses the Placebo Effect, Black blocks the Lethal Injection! Lethal misses the Lethal Injection, Black blocks a third attempt, SUPER KICK BY Lethal! Cutter! Fourth try connects! Lethal hooks the leg and wins in 15 minutes.
Winner: Jay Lethal
Grade: ***
Thoughts: PJ Black was made to look like he could really compete against the best here, as Lethal couldn’t get much without it being countered or blocked on the first attempt. Black has some unique combinations and transitions. Put the TV Title on this guy and let him wrestle every week, wow! I really liked this match, but the result was never in question. It was a proving ground for PJ Black, who proved his worth. Not to mention we were told Lethal won last week when they previewed the Tournament’s semi-finals at Glory by Honor.
Overall Show Grade: 4/10
There’s just so much I can say, with so much going on in wrestling right now, ROH looks to just be in a bad spot. The crowds are pathetic and silent. There’s more crowd noise at joshi events. You can hear one or two fans clapping and cheering, there’s less than a couple hundred people in attendance. This show was all over the place, three weeks after Death Before Dishonor aired acting like it happened the night before (claiming so several times), failing to showcase Dragon Lee in a segment that was supposed to, having their main event match spoiled the week before, and telling us that if we watched ROH on FITE TV, we can go watch more matches on Youtube is ridiculous. The main event saved this show from being a total bomb, but the lack of crowd killed what could have been a special match between great athletes. They tried, but the crowd just didn’t care. You just can’t air these types of shows and expect anyone to care about your product and take it seriously. Last week was much better. I hope there’s better days ahead. I hope.

Mixed Six Tag: The Premier Athletes VS Angelica Risk, Brandon Cutler & Terry Kid!
The only reason “Smart” Mark Sterling doesn’t immediately start this episode off interrupting Bobby Cruise is because Angelica, Brandon & Terry got to make their entrance to the ring. And of course, he tells Bobby to “hit the bricks,” everybody knows they are The Premier Athletes: Ariya Daivari, Tony Nese & Stori Denali! “Folks, it’s been 189 days since I’ve last been attacked by one of our opponents, and it’s been a glorious 189 days, except made a little less glorious when we’re back in Jacksonville.” The fans boo but Mark says he is surprised to see Brandon Cutler here, wrestling?! Guess The Young Bucks didn’t need their gear washed today.
The fans boo more, and Cutler gets up in Sterling’s face, but then Stori steps up. Mark eggs Cutler on while Stori pats Cutler on the head. Sterling wants us to join in, when he says, “Athletes,” the fans all say, “Rule!” Nothing else! Hands in, team. Ohhh…! ATHLETES! “SUCK!” Gottee! Sterling is upset, but will Cutler’s team get the upset? Or will The Premier Athletes keep that 189 day safe streak going?
The trios sort out, and it is ladies first as Angelica starts against Stori. The Code of Honor is upheld, the bell rings, but then Stori doesn’t let go! She reels Angelica in and THROWS her down! Angelica goes to a corner, but Stori runs up to LEG LARIAT! Stori then digs her boot into Angelica’s neck, while Angelica is still standing! The fans boo and the ref counts but Stori takes full advantage of her height before backing off at 4. “Athletes!” “SUCK!” Wait, a few people (men, sounds like) actually do say, “Rule!” Stori drags Angelica up, smothers her, then ROCKS her with a forearm! Stori whips corner to corner and Angelica hits buckles hard!
Stori storms up on Angelica, KNEES her low again and again, then digs her boot in again! The ref counts, Stori stops, btu she pushes Angelica around. Stori scoops, but Angelica fights free! Hot tag to Cutler! Daivari runs up but into haymakers! Cutler whips, Daivari reverses, but Cutler springboards to CROSSBODY! Nese runs up to kick low! Nese whips, Cutler reverses, and Cutler runs up, only to be put on the top rope! Cutler straddles the ropes, and Tony talks trash while he climbs. But then Cutler fires haymakers on Tony! The fans cheer as Cutler JUMPING STEINERS! The fans fire up as Cutler fireman’s carries Daivari!
Sterling gets on the apron and tells Cutler to put Daivari down. Cutler drops Daivari to chase after Sterling! Sterling begs for mercy, but Stori CLOBBERS Cutler! Terry protests, but Nese PLANCHAS him down! Daivari hot tags Stori, Angelica runs in! Angelica ducks ‘n’ dodges, but runs into the BLACK HOLE SLAM! Stori then guzels and deadlifts Angelica into the SIX STORI CHOKE SLAM! Cover, Premier Athletes win!
Winners: The Premier Athletes, by pinfall
Whether they rule or they suck, the Athletes are undefeated in Mixed Six Action! Will they pioneer an ROH Mixed Tag Division? Or will another trio rise up to match them?
Caprice Coleman #ChopsItUp with Lee Moriarty.
Caprice thanks #TAIGASTYLE for sitting down with him, Caprice has so many questions because Lee is a very intriguing person. From wrestling to art, one thing Caprice wants to talk about is how Lee’s style mixes with STP. The reason he asks is because Caprice and Shane Taylor are good friends, like brothers. Caprice sees the dichotomy between STP and Lee, where sometimes Lee is a great young man, a true wrestler, and sometimes Lee is joining in, stomping someone out like a gangster. Is Lee torn between himself? Or is that just who he is? Is there any way to explain it?
Lee says when Lee joined Shane, there was a part of him figuring out who Lee Moriarty was, but over the past two years, he has realized who he is. Lee IS the best pure wrestler and that is what the title says. Lee is someone solely focused on the sport and artform of wrestling. He never wants to lose that side of himself. Lee does understand why Shane and the others do what they do, but for Lee, it is about what happens in the ring. Everything outside is not always something he condones, but he understands. Caprice feels Shane understands, too, as Shane is the one who pulled Lee aside, showed him who he is, and that is how Lee became Pure Champion.
Caprice is sure Shane feels that now Lee is champion, maybe Lee doesn’t need Shane as much. Caprice isn’t so sure, but how does Lee feel? Is he in his own lane? What is the relationship with Shane Taylor Promotions. Lee says the relationship is good, and thinks that it isn’t Lee was trying to be accepted, he was just young and trying things. He dyed his hair green just to see if he liked it. It wasn’t so much that Shane told Lee who Lee was, it was Shane just telling Lee to be himself. That is why Lee found success, being himself, the wrestler, the student and artist of this sport. Their relationship is good.
There will be disagreements as a team. Shane is the promoter, the coach, not always ringside for Pure matches, but Shane is someone Lee can run things by. That’s what their team is. Someone in a boxing match, the cornerman coaches the boxer, but just like that, Lee is his own man. Shane may not be ringside for Pure, Lee wins those on his own, but he still values everything the team has to say. Caprice says that’s a great way to put it. Many people see tension and think the team’s about to break up, but it’s just a dynamic of the relationship. The Pure style is different than the rest, but Lee still respects the mentorship as a man.
That is what Caprice likes about STP. Shane has found a way to put his arm around people, allowing them to be themselves, but also evolving them. Speaking of, Lee is one of the most interesting people Caprice knows because Lee is not only a wrestler, but a legit artist. When did this start for Lee? Lee started drawing as a kid, before even he knew what wrestling was. He was copying art on VHS covers, trading cards, comic books. Not tracing, either, just looking at the art and recreating it, figuring it out. A big popular thing as a kid was to do a “Learn how to draw” book. Lee couldn’t always get those books, so he’d copy trading cards.
Going from there, once Lee signed with AEW, he had time at home and picked up his paint brush. That was a little over four years ago. Whoa, wait, he only started painting four years ago? Now, this is just what Caprice has heard, but some of Lee’s works have sold for thousands of dollars. Is that true? Yes, Lee gets paid well. It is Lee being very fortunate to live both his childhood dreams, wrestling and art, and being paid well for both. Caprice says Lee is an artist in both forms, the wrestling canvas and art canvas. He has fused those things together, which is why he’s Pure Champion. Lee says he would agree.
Lee learning to flow but also to have this sense of vision to where he wants to go, that works in Pure wrestling. Wrestling is an emotional sport, a business of emotion, and emotions benefit us, but we also have to learn to control those emotions. Lee and Caprice are both Bruce Lee fans, so the philosophy is to not fight angry, fight with emotional content. Lee applies that and his art, vice-versa, it’s a balance. Caprice loves that, and he appreciates learning this about Lee. They shake on it and Caprice is hoping to chop it up again. Will #TAIGASTYLE continue to create masterpieces on both canvases here in ROH/AEW?

She had it won before the driver, but she wanted to drive home the message that she’s just as big a threat as anyone in that Survival of the Fittest! But the question still remains: Will Billie help Athena keep the Forever Reign going? Or will she finally step into her own spotlight?
Tornado Tag: Blake Christian & Lee Johnson VS Adam Priest & Tommy Billington!
While Vanilla Baby has his match with Bandido set for Supercard of Honor, he and Big Shotty need to settle things with #AllGenres & The New Dynamite Kid. And given the escalating animosity, a match where tags are not needed is a perfect fit! But will Jay Lethal’s new proteges get rid of the old? Or will Adam & Tommy prove they never needed Lethal at all?
Whoa, not only do Adam & Tommy not need tags, they don’t wait for the bell! They rush the ring and attack The Swirl! Adam throw hands on Lee while Tommy TACKLES Blake and HAMMERS away! They high-ten and the fans cheer. Tommy & Adam double whip Lee, Lee reverses, and Blake DUMPS Adam while Lee runs up on Tommy! Tommy slips around to roll Lee up, TWO! Lee LARIATS Tommy down! The fans rally but now The Swirl mugs Adam!
Blake sends Adam in to apron, Lee sends Adam into railing, and repeat! Lee scoops to SNAKE EYES off the steps! Blake uses those steps to BLOCKBUSTER to the floor! The fans boo but The Swirl soaks up the heat. The Swirl then goes to Tommy, and Blake stomps him. Lee joins in with stomps, then they double choke! The ref counts that, The Swirl lets off, but they drag Tommy up for a DOUBLE SUPLEX! Cocky cover, ONE! Tommy is tougher than that but The Swirl just swaggers around him. Blake CLUBS Tommy, puts him up top, and into the Tree of Woe. But Adam intercepts Lee with CHOP after CHOP!

And then a facelock, but Adam wrenches out to DDT!
The fans fire up as all four men are down around ringside! “This is Awesome!” as Adam goes to the apron and climbs up a corner. But Blake somersaults to SHORYUKEN! Adam takes aim, DIVING HEADBUTT onto the chair!!! Lee uses the chair as a shield, then he fireman’s carries! Blake goes up, SWIRL VALLEY!! Cover, The Swirl wins!
Winners: The Swirl, by pinfall
Jay Lethal may have betrayed Adam & Tommy, but he clearly taught them all well! However, the bad attitude of Blake & Lee saw them through, and now Blake takes aim at The Outlaw! Will Vanilla Baby take the ROH World Championship from Bandido? Or will he fail to take down The Most Wanted?
My Thoughts:
A very good episode for ROH at 75 minutes. Surprisingly, only one promo and it was the “Chop It Up” segment. Great stuff learning about Lee Moriarty, though AEW had already done well in sharing his other career as an artist. I do appreciate they were addressing the kayfabe disagreements Lee and STP were having, because it can be used for both a story where they all stick together, and for a story where the disagreements do lead to something more serious. Very good Mixed Six win for Premier Athletes, but they should consider getting Stori going in the Women’s Division, she’s being wasted as simply the muscle in a mixed trio.
Good stuff in the other matches, though Beef maybe got too good a showing against Davis. This is supposed to be Davis after he just won against Ospreay by “referee stoppage.” Though I suppose a Will Ospreay at less than 100% and a Beef at 100% are equal? And even then, that match was only about seven minutes so that’s still a good win for Davis. Very fun Six Man Tag and win for MXM TV. Fun fact: Keagan Garland is the son of Scotty2Hotty, and he indeed attempted The Worm. Diamante showed she could do technical wrestling by beating Rachael with a heel hook, her and Deonna will have a very good title match at Supercard.
Very fun 8 Man Tag match and win for The Colons & SAP, but they really need to get going on a tag title story. I wouldn’t be surprised if we got a ladder match with three or four teams, including Sammy & Mortos. I’m a little surprised Billie didn’t have a match with one of her Survival of the Fittest opponents, but Hyan still gave her a great match. Perhaps we’ll have more tune-up matches, but it’d make sense if they created a tag or trios match as a go-home match. Athena, Billie and Adora VS Yuka, Maya, and Persephone. And very good Tornado Tag, Adam & Tommy coming out hot was a nice touch. But given Blake needs momentum going into Supercard, he and Big Shotty were of course winning.
My Score: 8.7/10

Josh Woods speaks.
“Now, over the past couple months, I’ve been gaining momentum in the ROH Pure Division, which puts me one step closer to putting the ROH Pure title right above my medals. And if we’re being honest, and I think that’s super important here, I’m bored! And not because I don’t love what I do, don’t get me wrong, I do. But it’s just too easy. And instead of just waltzing down and wiping the floor with anybody, I would like to issue an Open Challenge. An Open Challenge to any pure wrestler across the world who thinks they can stand toe-to-toe with The Technical Beast, Josh Woods.
“Now, I’d like to leave you with this thought: When I win the Open Challenge at Supercard of Honor, that leaves a purified path back to YOU, Lee Moriarty, and regaining the ROH Pure title!” The Technical Beast has put out the challenge, but who will take the bait in Salisbury?

Isla is shocked, but she let Persephone catch her sleeping! The CMLL Women’s World Champion is going to Supercard, but will she be adding the ROH Women’s World Championship to her collection?
Exclusive interview with Nick Wayne, Mother Shayna, and Kip Sabian.
Caprice Coleman welcomes us in as he looks to #ChopItUp with the ROH World Television Champion and “family.” Caprice says Nick is back, still champion, and maybe even better than he left. No idea how he did it, but Caprice wants to welcome Nick back. Caprice is a big fan of the late, great Buddy Wayne, and wants to shake hands. Nick says yeah, he doesn’t do that. Oh, okay, starting off rude, that’s fine. But Caprice is honored to see Nick in ROH. Nick has a big schedule, not just as ROH World TV Champion, but he’s entering the 2026 NJPW Best of the Super Juniors. Nick was in it last year, he showed the world he belonged.
But now this year, surely it’ll be different. What are the goals for the BOSJ? Nick says when it comes to BOSJ and how it was last year, he went in with a goal to become the youngest participant to ever compete. He did that. He wanted to become the youngest tournament winner, but that didn’t happen. This year is less a goal and more an aspiration. Nick aspires to win BOSJ, become the youngest winner of all time, and if you ask him and this ROH World TV title, he’s confident to do just that. Caprice says yes, he’s also the youngest ROH World TV Champion, and one of the longer reigning at just shy of 365 days.
Is there anyone in the BOSJ that Nick is looking forward to facing, or even hopes he faces? Nick says he wanted to become the youngest winner ever, but he had to watch someone else do that in Kosei Fujita. Nick calls out Fujita and says there’s a target on his back. Kosei took that honor from Nick, so now Nick will take that from Kosei. Caprice would say this tournament makes Nick a target since he’s got the title. With that, there’s a lot of pressure, and he has to say, pressure is real. But also, Caprice is impressed on not just the return but how he recovered from that injury. What was the regiment? He has more muscle, he’s faster, what is it?
Superbad interrupts and says he’ll forgive the naivety. Nick Wayne isn’t your average wrestler, he wasn’t just recovering. Nick has been evolving! He could’ve come back whenever he wanted, but there’s always a plan. Wait and see what he does in the BOSJ. Caprice is impressed with Kip’s vocabulary. Now, Nick’s been able to hold onto this TV title a long time, but we all know it is one match at a time. BOSJ being round robin, you don’t win one match, come back a week or two later and go again. This is back to back. How is the foot going to hold up? Shayna flips open her hand fan and says her son is in perfect health. How dare you insinuate otherwise.
Caprice keeps his cool and asks Nick what the world should know about him. Nick and Shayna both answer that Nick is the future king of pro-wrestling. Well, best of luck in BOSJ, and thank you, Shayna & Kip. CHYAH! The Prodigy is confident as ever, but will that lead him to taking home the BOSJ trophy and the title shot it comes with?
ROH World Television Championship: Nick Wayne w/ Shayna Wayne VS Evil Uno!
Speaking of title shots, The Prodigy is going to face Player One, who positioned himself for this opportunity thanks to Global Wars: Canada and Maple Leave Pro: Uprising. But will Uno finally bring gold home to the Dark Order? Or will this be just the thing to send Nick to NJPW with momentum?

Nick slides in, but Uno STOMPS the hands! Nick clutches his fingers, but he still ROUND- NO, Uno ducks the roundhouse and shouts STOP! Nick says shut up, but Uno still ROCKS him! Uno suplexes for the GHOSTBUSTER! The fans fire up again as Uno aims from a corner. Uno runs up on Nick for a DISCUS- ROUNDHOUSE!! Nick covers, Nick wins!
Winner: Nick Wayne, by pinfall (still ROH World Television Champion)
Nick is on a win streak since coming back, and he’s bringing the belt with him to BOSJ and Supercard. Ian Riccaboni goes to the ring for an interview, and ask what is next for the ROH World TV Champion? Nick says asking a question like that, all he can think about is that this is the WORLD DOMINATION of Nick Wayne! The fans sing for “Mother, Mother, Mother Wayne, yeah!” Nick says no, this is about HIS world domination! For those who don’t know, just a couple days ago, he got announced for BOSJ 33! And surely, you wonder what that means for the ROH World TV Champion. It means he’ll do what he’s doing here in ROH over in NJPW.
Nick will wrestle at least nine other men, beat them all, win the finals, and become the youngest BOSJ Tournament winner EVER! Strictly because this is Wayne’s World, and you’re all just living in it! Nick has issued his mission statement, but will it be mission accomplished in 2026?
Nigel McGuinness speaks.
“I know it’s cliche. Just when you think you’re out, they pull you back in. Final Battle two years ago, when I was unable to take the Pure title from Lee Moriarty, I thought that was it. This past year at Final Battle, when he defeated me in a 30 minute Ironman match, I was sure that was it. But then Josh Woods has started running through ROH, defeating everyone under Pure Rules, saying he’s the best pure wrestler int he world, and he wants another shot at Lee Moriarty. But Josh, you don’t beat Lee Moriarty a third time, without beating me first! Cuz if you can’t beat me, you can’t beat Lee. And if you can’t beat me, Lee, I want one more shot for the Pure title!
“And if I can’t beat you on a third time, I’ll go quietly into the night. In fact to earn that opportunity Josh, at Supercard of Honor, let’s find out! Josh Woods, have you still got the goods? I’ll see you there.” Now that is a Pure dream match! Will Woods tear down one of the best to go after THE best? Or can Nigel slay the Technical Beast?
Blake Christian speaks.
“For over a year, the story has been about Bandido, Blake Christian, and the ROH World Championship. I have been chasing you all year, letting you know that I want your championship! And you have found a way to dodge me every single time. Whether that be Takeshita, Hechicero, Mascara Dorada, or you narrowly escaping in that Survival of the Fittest. It always should’ve been me and you. And it’s funny that this cat ‘n’ mouse game that you and I are playing. Let’s stop. You, me, the ROH World Championship at Supercard of Honor. It is always going to be about me and you.” Vanilla Baby has called out The Most Wanted, but will he get what he wants? Or just what he deserves?

And with that, Maya completes the field for Survival of the Fittest! But will Maya soon rule the world? Or will not even FIVE (or more like four?) opponents be enough to stop Athena?
ROH Women’s World Championship Proving Grounds: Athena VS Zayda Steel w/ Christopher Daniels!
Well, speaking of stopping the Fallen Goddess, the Forever Champion is willing to have a match to keep herself sharp. But will it just be another name on the list in Athena’s FOUR YEAR reign? Or will Zayda prove she IS The Real Deal?

My Thoughts:
A great ROH clocking in at just over two hours. But at least this two hours was more justified with real story-relevant matches and content. Good interview promo from Nick Wayne, and a great match with Evil Uno. Naturally Nick won, he’ll once again represent AEW & ROH in the Best of the Super Juniors. No guarantees he comes through and wins the tournament like he wants, I feel like this could be Francesco Akira’s time so that United Empire also gets the Junior Heavyweight title to go with Callum Newman’s world title. Good promo from Blake Christian to call Bandido out one more time, and they’re finally giving us the match. Maybe Lethal & Johnson help Blake cheat and win to put a punctuation on this dragged-out feud.
Very good Pure Championship match, but not only was Marshall not winning, he wasn’t lasting the whole hour. Again I say, for all Pure Championship matches, men’s and women’s, cut that time limit down because claiming they have an entire hour but hardly ever going twenty is dumb. Great qualifiers for the Survival of the Fittest, even though most outcomes were a given. Billie getting in really makes me hope she turns on Athena once and for all. Billie doesn’t even have to win it all, she can just make sure Athena loses it all. Either way, Athena and Billie can have one last match over the summer, Billie finally wins 1v1, and Athena moves on to AEW to go after those titles.
My Score: 8.8/10
