Josh Woods speaks.

“Now, over the past couple months, I’ve been gaining momentum in the ROH Pure Division, which puts me one step closer to putting the ROH Pure title right above my medals. And if we’re being honest, and I think that’s super important here, I’m bored! And not because I don’t love what I do, don’t get me wrong, I do. But it’s just too easy. And instead of just waltzing down and wiping the floor with anybody, I would like to issue an Open Challenge. An Open Challenge to any pure wrestler across the world who thinks they can stand toe-to-toe with The Technical Beast, Josh Woods.

“Now, I’d like to leave you with this thought: When I win the Open Challenge at Supercard of Honor, that leaves a purified path back to YOU, Lee Moriarty, and regaining the ROH Pure title!” The Technical Beast has put out the challenge, but who will take the bait in Salisbury?

Exclusive interview with Nick Wayne, Mother Shayna, and Kip Sabian.

Caprice Coleman welcomes us in as he looks to #ChopItUp with the ROH World Television Champion and “family.” Caprice says Nick is back, still champion, and maybe even better than he left. No idea how he did it, but Caprice wants to welcome Nick back. Caprice is a big fan of the late, great Buddy Wayne, and wants to shake hands. Nick says yeah, he doesn’t do that. Oh, okay, starting off rude, that’s fine. But Caprice is honored to see Nick in ROH. Nick has a big schedule, not just as ROH World TV Champion, but he’s entering the 2026 NJPW Best of the Super Juniors. Nick was in it last year, he showed the world he belonged.

But now this year, surely it’ll be different. What are the goals for the BOSJ? Nick says when it comes to BOSJ and how it was last year, he went in with a goal to become the youngest participant to ever compete. He did that. He wanted to become the youngest tournament winner, but that didn’t happen. This year is less a goal and more an aspiration. Nick aspires to win BOSJ, become the youngest winner of all time, and if you ask him and this ROH World TV title, he’s confident to do just that. Caprice says yes, he’s also the youngest ROH World TV Champion, and one of the longer reigning at just shy of 365 days.

Is there anyone in the BOSJ that Nick is looking forward to facing, or even hopes he faces? Nick says he wanted to become the youngest winner ever, but he had to watch someone else do that in Kosei Fujita. Nick calls out Fujita and says there’s a target on his back. Kosei took that honor from Nick, so now Nick will take that from Kosei. Caprice would say this tournament makes Nick a target since he’s got the title. With that, there’s a lot of pressure, and he has to say, pressure is real. But also, Caprice is impressed on not just the return but how he recovered from that injury. What was the regiment? He has more muscle, he’s faster, what is it?

Superbad interrupts and says he’ll forgive the naivety. Nick Wayne isn’t your average wrestler, he wasn’t just recovering. Nick has been evolving! He could’ve come back whenever he wanted, but there’s always a plan. Wait and see what he does in the BOSJ. Caprice is impressed with Kip’s vocabulary. Now, Nick’s been able to hold onto this TV title a long time, but we all know it is one match at a time. BOSJ being round robin, you don’t win one match, come back a week or two later and go again. This is back to back. How is the foot going to hold up? Shayna flips open her hand fan and says her son is in perfect health. How dare you insinuate otherwise.

Caprice keeps his cool and asks Nick what the world should know about him. Nick and Shayna both answer that Nick is the future king of pro-wrestling. Well, best of luck in BOSJ, and thank you, Shayna & Kip. CHYAH! The Prodigy is confident as ever, but will that lead him to taking home the BOSJ trophy and the title shot it comes with?

ROH World Television Championship: Nick Wayne w/ Shayna Wayne VS Evil Uno!

Speaking of title shots, The Prodigy is going to face Player One, who positioned himself for this opportunity thanks to Global Wars: Canada and Maple Leave Pro: Uprising. But will Uno finally bring gold home to the Dark Order? Or will this be just the thing to send Nick to NJPW with momentum?

The introductions are made, the belt is raised, and we see who is the Face of ROH TV!

The Code of Honor is not upheld. The fans boo, the bell rings, but Uno stays cool. He and Nick tie up, go around, and Uno puts Nick in the corner. The ref counts, Uno backs off slowly, but then he steps to Nick. Nick stays back but the fans cheer. Uno and Nick reset, circle, and tie up again. Nick pulls the mask to put Uno in the corner! The ref counts, Nick lets go, but Uno SHOVES Nick! Nick goes to ropes and uses them as defense. The fans boo but Nick grins as he and Uno reset. They tie up again, but Nick waistlocks. Uno wrenches to wristlock, but Nick spins and reaches around to headlock. Uno powers up but can’t power out as Nick holds on.

Uno powers up again but Nick still holds on tight! Nick wrenches, hammerlocks, then snapmares Uno to KICK him in the back! Uno is upset and he DECKS Nick! The fans cheer Uno but Shayna complains. Uno tells her to shut it! Nick kicks low, headlocks, but Uno powers up and out. Nick RAMS Uno, but Uno rebounds to RUN Nick over! Things speed up, Uno turns hurdle into atomic drop! Then scoop SLAM! Cover, ONE! Uno whips again, but Nick bails out! The fans cheer as Nick goes to his mom for comfort and encouragement. Uno tells Nick to get in the ring, but Shayna says he can take his time.

Nick hobbles around the way, but Uno asks if Nick has permission from mommy now. Nick rolls in, flips Uno off, then bails back out. Nick takes another breather, but Uno bails out the side! Uno runs up to POUNCE Nick! Shayna protests but Uno says she should watch herself. Uno CHOPS Nick, then mocks Nick with the Scott Hall fingers. Uno CHOPS Nick again, he high-fives a fan, and Uno puts Nick in the ring. Uno drags Nick, CHOPS him to a corner, then LARIATS! And LARIATS, LARIATS, LARIATS! The fans cheer as Uno goes to TEN! Nick sputters, the fans rally, and Uno bumps Nick off buckles.

Uno puts Nick up top, tells the heckler to shut up, then says time to go up! Uno climbs, but Nick fights the suplex! Nick fires body shots, then bends Uno’s fingers and wrist! Nick HOTSHOTS Uno’s arm! The fans rally as Nick goes up, up, and DOUBLE STOMPS the arm! Uno clutches his hand, Nick covers, TWO! The fans cheer for “MOTHER WAYNE!” but Nick stomps Uno in the corner. Nick YANKS the arm, then stomps away in the corner. The ref counts but Nick stops to then storm up again. Snapmare and SPLASH on the bad arm! Cover, TWO! Uno is tougher than that but Nick just grins as he stays close.

Nick eggs Uno on, kicks him around, then slaps him around. The fans rally as Uno rises. Nick pie faces, but Uno turns around and CHOPS! The fans fire up with Uno and he stands Nick up. But Nick wrenches for the ARM CODE BREAKER! Cover, TWO! Nick clamps on with a top wristlock and he grinds Uno down. The fans rally, Uno fights up, and he fires forearms and HEADBUTTS! Uno blocks a kick, but not the forearm! Nick swings, misses, and Uno hits the NECKBREAKER! The fans fire up while both men are down. Uno crawls to a corner while Nick flounders. Nick runs up, Uno dodges, and Uno comes back to CLOBBER Nick!

Uno CHOPS Nick, runs up on the corner, BACK ELBOW! Uno reels Nick in, suplexes, but Nick slips free! Uno ducks ‘n’ dodges to BOOT and DDT! Cover, TWO! Uno hurries to lift Nick again, stalling PILEDRIVER!! Cover, TWO!! Nick survives and Uno is beside himself! The fans rally as Uno rises, and he brings Nick up again. Nick fights the suplex but Uno fires body shots. Uno whips Nick to ropes but Nick blocks! Uno’s arm jams, Nick hits an ASAI DDT! Cover, TWO! But into the DOUBLE WRISTLOCK! The fans rally as Uno endures but Nick pushes on that Kimura! Uno crawls forward, even with Nick partly in the way, and he has the ROPEBREAK!

The fans cheer but Nick holds on. The ref counts, Nick lets go at 4. Shayna is frustrated for Nick but Nick storms up on Uno. Nick grabs the arm, wrenches again, but Uno whips Nick out! Nick slides in, but Uno STOMPS the hands! Nick clutches his fingers, but he still ROUND- NO, Uno ducks the roundhouse and shouts STOP! Nick says shut up, but Uno still ROCKS him! Uno suplexes for the GHOSTBUSTER! The fans fire up again as Uno aims from a corner. Uno runs up on Nick for a DISCUS- ROUNDHOUSE!! Nick covers, Nick wins!

Winner: Nick Wayne, by pinfall (still ROH World Television Champion)

Nick is on a win streak since coming back, and he’s bringing the belt with him to BOSJ and Supercard. Ian Riccaboni goes to the ring for an interview, and ask what is next for the ROH World TV Champion? Nick says asking a question like that, all he can think about is that this is the WORLD DOMINATION of Nick Wayne! The fans sing for “Mother, Mother, Mother Wayne, yeah!” Nick says no, this is about HIS world domination! For those who don’t know, just a couple days ago, he got announced for BOSJ 33! And surely, you wonder what that means for the ROH World TV Champion. It means he’ll do what he’s doing here in ROH over in NJPW.

Nick will wrestle at least nine other men, beat them all, win the finals, and become the youngest BOSJ Tournament winner EVER! Strictly because this is Wayne’s World, and you’re all just living in it! Nick has issued his mission statement, but will it be mission accomplished in 2026?

Nigel McGuinness speaks.

“I know it’s cliche. Just when you think you’re out, they pull you back in. Final Battle two years ago, when I was unable to take the Pure title from Lee Moriarty, I thought that was it. This past year at Final Battle, when he defeated me in a 30 minute Ironman match, I was sure that was it. But then Josh Woods has started running through ROH, defeating everyone under Pure Rules, saying he’s the best pure wrestler int he world, and he wants another shot at Lee Moriarty. But Josh, you don’t beat Lee Moriarty a third time, without beating me first! Cuz if you can’t beat me, you can’t beat Lee. And if you can’t beat me, Lee, I want one more shot for the Pure title!

“And if I can’t beat you on a third time, I’ll go quietly into the night. In fact to earn that opportunity Josh, at Supercard of Honor, let’s find out! Josh Woods, have you still got the goods? I’ll see you there.” Now that is a Pure dream match! Will Woods tear down one of the best to go after THE best? Or can Nigel slay the Technical Beast?

Blake Christian speaks.

“For over a year, the story has been about Bandido, Blake Christian, and the ROH World Championship. I have been chasing you all year, letting you know that I want your championship! And you have found a way to dodge me every single time. Whether that be Takeshita, Hechicero, Mascara Dorada, or you narrowly escaping in that Survival of the Fittest. It always should’ve been me and you. And it’s funny that this cat ‘n’ mouse game that you and I are playing. Let’s stop. You, me, the ROH World Championship at Supercard of Honor. It is always going to be about me and you.” Vanilla Baby has called out The Most Wanted, but will he get what he wants? Or just what he deserves?

The Code of Honor is upheld, the bell rings, and the fans rally as the two circle. They tie up, Robyn uses height as leverage but Maya still pushes Robyn back. Robyn arm-drags, then she does push-ups just to show off. Robyn dusts herself off, then resets with Maya. The fans rally and Robyn claims it is all for her. Maya still headlocks Robyn, but Robyn powers up and out. Maya rolls over the dropdown, then wrenches to wristlock. Robyn rolls, wrenches, and wristlocks back. Maya brings Robyn up, bumps her off buckles, then CHOPS! Maya throws off her glove, wrenches and reels Robyn in, snap suplex! Cover, TWO! Maya stays calm as she brings Robyn up. Maya bumps Robyn off buckles, fires forearm after forearm, then winds up. Robyn dodges but Maya ELBOWS her away! Maya goes up, but Robyn SUPERKICKS Maya down! And then she runs up from the corner, SHINING WIZARD! Cover, Maya wins!

Winner: Maya World, by pinfall (advances to Supercard of Honor)

And with that, Maya completes the field for Survival of the Fittest! But will Maya soon rule the world? Or will not even FIVE (or more like four?) opponents be enough to stop Athena?

ROH Women’s World Championship Proving Grounds: Athena VS Zayda Steel w/ Christopher Daniels!

Well, speaking of stopping the Fallen Goddess, the Forever Champion is willing to have a match to keep herself sharp. But will it just be another name on the list in Athena’s FOUR YEAR reign? Or will Zayda prove she IS The Real Deal?

The Code of Honor is upheld, the bell rings, and we’re on the clock. Athena and Zayda tie up, go around, and Athena hits a headlock takeover. Zayda headscissors, Athena moves around and slips out to float back to the headlock. Zayda endures, fights up, and wrenches free to headlock back. Zayda hits the takeover but Athena headscissors. Zayda moves around, powers out, and she SLAPS Athena! Athena wants after Zayda, gets her in the corner, then brings her around in a facelock. Snap takeover, then Athena grinds the hold! Zayda fights up but Athena wrangles her down! They roll, Zayda has the ROPEBREAK!

Athena lets go and grins as she waits on Zayda. The two reset, tie up, and Athena KNEES low! Athena whips, Zayda wheelbarrows, and she arm-drags Athena away! Zayda runs, wrenches, kicks, then whips. Athena reverses, Zayda tilt-o-whirls and RANAS! Zayda ELBOWS in the corner, snapmares and runs, to basement DROPKICK! High stack, ONE!! Athena’s tougher than all that, but Zayda underhooks. Athena BACKDROPS, Zayda sunset flips it, TWO! Athena sits on it, TWO! Zayda Oklahoma Rolls, TWO! The two back off, and Athena throat chops! The fans boo, Daniels protests and the ref reprimands, but Athena says this is HER show!

Athenea fireman’s carries, but Zayda arm-drags free! Athena bails out, Zayda builds speed, but Athena blocks the dropkick to wheelbarrow and GERMAN SUPLEX to the floor! The fans rally while Daniels checks Zayda. Athena mockingly says Zayda’s fine, then she drags Zayda up. Athena puts Zayda in the ring, then CLUBS her down! Athena steps on Zayda, taunts her, then stalks Zayda to a corner. Athena fires off on Zayda, the ref counts, but Athena stops at 4 so she can shout at the ref! The fans fire up for that, but then Athena goes back to Zayda. Athena drags Zayda up, but Zayda rolls Athena up, TWO!

Zayda stands but into Athena’s DROPKICK! Athena snapmares Zayda, KICKS her in the back, then she snarls as she circles Zayda. Athena KNEES Zayda in the back, KNEES her again, then clamps onto a chinlock. Athena fishhooks Zayda to make her smile, but she stops at 4. The fans rally, Daniels coaches Zayda, but Athena storms up. Zayda ELBOWS and KICKS Athena as we hit five minutes. Athena ROCKS Zayda in return, then brings her around to wrench and hook up into the modified COBRA TWIST! Zayda endures while Athena grins. Zayda fights free and fires body shots. Zayda goes to run but Athena reels her in!

Zayda uses the British Escape, then mule kicks, but Athena goes to buckle bump. Zayda blocks, then she ELBOWS and ROCKS Athena! Then THESZ PRESS! Zayda stalks Athena, runs up on her in the corner, and RAMS into her! Zayda goes outside, shoves Athena down, then climbs up. Athena rolls to the apron, but Zayda just adjusts course! SUPER CROSSBODY! The fans fire up as both women are down at the ramp!

Zayda puts Athena back in, waistlocks, ripcord and WHEEL KICK! Cover, but Athena already has the ropes! Zayda drags Athena to another cover, TWO! Daniels coaches Zayda to stay focused, she’s got Athena where she wants her. Zayda nods and brings Athena up. But Athena pulls hair! The ref counts, Zayda SHOVES Athena, but Athena kips up to SUPERKICK! TIGER PLEX! And then SENTON! Cover, TWO! Zayda survives and now Athena is frustrated. Time is on Zayda’s side but Athena has experience. Athena goes up the corner, takes aim, but Zayda ROCKS her first! Zayda fires more hands, then climbs up to get her!

Zayda fires hands, then goes up to the very top, SUPER STEINER! The fans fire up as Athena flounders. Zayda runs up to facelock and TORNADO D- NO, Athena powers out! Zayda dodges, tilt-o-whirls, and DDTS after all!! Cover, TWO?!? Athena survives but Daniels fires everyone up! Zayda runs in, RAMS into Athena again, but Athena has her in a gut wrench! SWINGING SLAM! KOJI KLUTCH!! Zayda TAPS, Athena wins!

Winner: Athena, by submission (denies Zayda Steel a title match)

Daniels protests, Zayda is out but Athena holds on! Athena lets go, but then Daniels hurries in and shields Zayda. The Fallen Angel won’t let the Fallen Goddess do as she wants to his young ward. Will Athena just have to prove she’s not to be trifled with at Supercard of Honor?

My Thoughts:

A great ROH clocking in at just over two hours. But at least this two hours was more justified with real story-relevant matches and content. Good interview promo from Nick Wayne, and a great match with Evil Uno. Naturally Nick won, he’ll once again represent AEW & ROH in the Best of the Super Juniors. No guarantees he comes through and wins the tournament like he wants, I feel like this could be Francesco Akira’s time so that United Empire also gets the Junior Heavyweight title to go with Callum Newman’s world title. Good promo from Blake Christian to call Bandido out one more time, and they’re finally giving us the match. Maybe Lethal & Johnson help Blake cheat and win to put a punctuation on this dragged-out feud.

Very good Pure Championship match, but not only was Marshall not winning, he wasn’t lasting the whole hour. Again I say, for all Pure Championship matches, men’s and women’s, cut that time limit down because claiming they have an entire hour but hardly ever going twenty is dumb. Great qualifiers for the Survival of the Fittest, even though most outcomes were a given. Billie getting in really makes me hope she turns on Athena once and for all. Billie doesn’t even have to win it all, she can just make sure Athena loses it all. Either way, Athena and Billie can have one last match over the summer, Billie finally wins 1v1, and Athena moves on to AEW to go after those titles.

My Score: 8.8/10

What WrestleMania Moment is your favorite?

42 years of history and spectacle, it’s hard to choose just one. Hulk Hogan VS Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan VS The Rock, Eddie Guerrero winning the WWE Championship, the entire Undertaker’s undefeated streak. But it doesn’t really matter which moment is your favorite or if they’re all your favorite, because the Grandest Stage of Them All means so much to all of us. The magic, the memories, the legacy, it’s WrestleMania!

The Las Vegas Mass Choir sings God Bless America.

WrestleMania: The Ultimate Stage.

Lin-Manuel Miranda says, “It’s something you can’t really explain, that feeling when the lights come on. The crowd roars, and you realize there’s no bigger stage than this. No brighter lights, no higher stakes, no louder crowd, and no second takes. It happens once, and it’s forever. Cuz memories are made in this ring, and we, you and me, the fans, we get to be there for moments we’ll never forget. We were there when the Irresistible Force met the Immovable Object. We were there when it seemed impossible, until it happened. When legends took their final bows. When Seth shocked the world. When Cody finished his story and made his dad proud.

“And years from now, decades from now, our kids will tell their kids that we were alive and we were there when Punk fought Roman for the title. When La Primera confronted La Guerita. When the Voices tried to squash the Nightmare. When Jade and Rhea stood face to face. When Oba stepped onto this stage, the biggest stage of them all, for the very first time. There’s no way to know exactly what drama lies ahead, but we know we’re here for the pops and the surprises, the memories that will last a lifetime. We are here, we are alive, no second takes. Lights up, the curtain’s about to rise. Welcome to WrestleMania!”

JOHN CENA is here!

Las Vegas fires up for The GOAT as he walks out on stage in his nicest suit. Cena says he knows, don’t worry, they’re not gonna run. Cena walks down the ramp, waves to the fans, and goes to the ring. The fans chant his name while he gets the mic, and Cena is already a bit emotional. “Wow, I didn’t expect that. Thank you so much. Sorry, uh, long time fan, long time performer, first time host, how am I doing so far? It’s undeniable that this year’s Road to WrestleMania has been chaos. It has been unpredictable. And from every side, from both in here, hell, back there, and out here, it has been very, very vocal.

“One could say it’s… Michael Cole, is it polarizing? Yes, polarizing. Now I see why I got the hosting gig. This is the moment I love the most. Especially on the Road to WrestleMania. We’re all in here for the same reason: Because we know the time to talk is up. The time to deliver is NOW! And we are all here with one thing on our minds: Who tonight will step up and deliver?” The fans cheer for that! Cena says it is such a great honor, ladies and gentlemen, and everyone watching around the world, WELCOME TO WRESTLEMANIA! The pyro goes off as the fans cheer, and it’s about to begin!

The fans cheer as Jimmy whips Speed, but Speed tilt-o-whirls to RANA! Speed is all fired up, but Knight gives him a B F- NO, Speed powers out, but that sends Knight into Logan! Theory is upset with Speed, but he ROCKS Knight. Theory says Speed needs to get back on Knight for the computer smash. Speed runs, but Knight SHOVES Theory into Speed! B F T on Theory! Cover, Knight & Usos win!

Winners: LA Knight & The Usos, by pinfall

Logan is freaking out, but The Vision should’ve realized, Speed is CURSED! Logan storms up on Speed and says he cost Logan his win! ONE LUCKY RIGHT!! The fans boo as Logan tells Speed he had one job! Speed ruined their WrestleMania moment! Logan TOSSES Speed out, then he clears off the announce desk! The fans boo and the ref reprimands, but Logan says welcome to WWE, Speed! YOU MORON! Logan ROCKS Speed, puts him on the desk, then climbs up the corner! But Jey drags Logan down! Jey whips Logan to the ropes, ONE AND DONE!! The fans cheer as Knight kicks Logan out of the ring, then checks on Speed.

Knight puts Speed in the ring, and Speed fears for his life. But wait, they’re telling Speed to do Logan like Logan was gonna do him?! Logan is put on the desk! The fans cheer Speed on, and Speed agrees! He goes up the corner, then the corner post! Speed aims for a SUPER DUPER SPLASH!! Vegas is losing its mind because he really did that! Speed is just as stunned, but The Usos & Knight help Speed back into the ring! The fans cheer, and let’s run it back! IShowYEET! All is forgiven, but will Knight & The Usos make sure The Vision keep on losing?

Undisputed WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes VS Randy Orton w/ Pat McAfee!

The American Nightmare didn’t realize what he was doing telling The Viper he could be “the best” version of himself for this match. The Apex Predator unleashed that 2009 Randy Orton, and maybe even a little more, and apparently all with Pat coaching him up. But will this form of Randy Orton earn that 15th world championship? Or will Cody make sure Randy (and Pat) can’t “save” the WWE?

Pat McAfee makes his entrance first so he can flip off fans and tell them off, just as they do to him. Then Orton makes his entrance, with fans still singing along to Voices. Pat even joins Orton in doing the iconic pose from the corners. The tron then changes things up from the Mad Max wasteland to a Marvel’s Ironman style vault, or perhaps even Batman’s Bat Cave. The many phases of Cody’s career, from being just a rookie in green, to being the “Dashing” Cody Rhodes, to even Stardust, and now, the American Nightmare. And from below rises IRON CODY! “Wrestling has more than one royal family.”

The fans cheer and sing along with Kingdom as Cody unzips the golden jacket to show off the title, “WHOA~ OH~!” The ramp is so long, we get the second “WHOA~ OH~” and pyro before Cody’s even truly ringside. Cody still high-fives the young fans up front, and of course holds up his daughter, before going to the ring. The introductions are made, with Pat interrupting. “Listen up, you disgusting pigs! Make some noise for the man who stands at 6’5″, 275 pounds! A depiction of perfection in professional wrestling! When he walks outta here tonight, he’s gonna show each and every one of you fat ass bums what greatness looks like as he becomes a FIFTEEN TIME WORLD CHAMPION~!”

The fans go nuts as Jelly tells Cody to go do this 1v1!

Cody returns to the ring, but where is Orton? Orton realizes what just happened to Pat, and producers hurry out here, leading the way for the stretcher. The fans cheer and sing, “Hey hey hey, goodbye~!” Pat is put on the stretcher and is wheeled up the ram. Pat gives a thumbs up, then a middle finger. Orton sighs and shakes his head, then storms his way into the ring. The bell finally rings and the fans cheer. Cody and Orton stare down while the fans duel. They run up, tie up, and go around. They go along the ropes, around in corners, and back to center. They break, circle again, and tie up again. Orton headlocks but Cody endures the grind.

Cody powers up, out, but Orton RUNS him over! The fans are torn but Orton waits on Cody. Cody stands, he and Orton reset, and they tie up again. Orton UPPERCUTS Cody, Cody sputters and goes to another corner, but Orton whips corner to corner.

Cody goes up and over, but Orton is ready! Cody ducks the lariat, kicks and RHODES UPPERCUTS! Orton comes back, Cody dodges, and Cody SNAP POWERSLAMS! The fans are torn as Cody uses the move taught to him by Orton. Orton slowly rises, Cody springboards, but Orton catches him to the BACK2BACKBREAKER! Orton hobbles from that move, was that double-edged given his past back injury? Orton pokes Cody in the eyes to slow him down, then snapmares for a chinlock. The fans rally as Cody endures, fights up, and powers up to hit a BIG back suplex! Orton writhes and bails out, very angry right about now.

Orton walks off the pain but Cody storms after him. But Orton kicks low! Orton puts Cody in the ring, does his best to walk off the back pain, but Cody KICKS Orton in the ropes! Night one didn’t end how Orton wanted, but will he make sure this story with Cody meets a violent end?

My Thoughts:

A very good first night for WrestleMania 42, a lot of fun, and a lot better than the build was giving us. Though, given they televised the first hour and have only further commercialized Mania, there were also a lot of ads. And anyone on ESPN Unlimited, chances are you dealt with weird streaming problems where ad breaks made the thing skip back almost entire segments. As far as I could tell from the live crowd, they all enjoyed a large part of the show, except for how we ended on Orton standing tall but not champion. I’m a little surprised by that, given Pat being such a big part of the story. Jelly obliterating Pat and the desk was great, though.

But perhaps there’s more to this given Cody was using Heel tactics to counter Heel Orton, and how Orton turned on Pat already. Will “the powers that be” behind Pat now want to punish Orton? Is Cody going to actually turn Heel?  Cody at least proved to Stephanie McMahon that Cody could do what he has to in order to beat “this Randy Orton.” Orton also ended up with kayfabe back problems outta nowhere, and I can’t be sure if that was supposed to protect Orton in the loss or what. Orton and Cody getting bloody was a nice touch, though. Even if you don’t factor in Pat, a lot of the problem is WWE didn’t factor in how fans would react to Orton doing these “2009 Orton” things to Cody, because the fans loved it from the moment Orton turned on Cody at the contract signing.

The televised hour was really good to get the ball rolling. Not sure The Vision needed a 9-way split screen… I figured Knight & Usos would win the Six Man Tag, but that wasn’t how I expected it. I did appreciate them turning the “misunderstanding causing dysfunction” around on Theory & Logan. Kudos to Speed hitting the SUPER frog splash, Speed might have himself a future in WWE. Fatu VS Drew was a very good Unsanctioned match, but obviously they weren’t going to go as far as anything AEW would do/has done. Maybe they should’ve bled here, too? Either way, great win for Fatu, but I’m not sure what’s next. Will Drew demand a rematch? Or will we finally learn who knocked Fatu’s teeth out last year?

Very good match from Rollins VS Gunther, on its way to great, though ironically that was partially because of the brawling they did before the match. Bron Breakker showing up was only a little surprising, as it was bound to happen, I’m just not sure it needed to happen to affect Rollins VS Gunther. It does protect Rollins in losing to Gunther, but did he need it? Gunther’s Gunther, Rollins can lose to him fair and square, and then Bron spears Rollins inside-out outta nowhere. Rollins VS Bron is now set, and I’m pretty sure Gunther cashes in that favor with Heyman to get his fight with Lesnar.

Very wonderful news from Bianca Belair, it turns out her hand wasn’t why she wasn’t back in the ring yet. John Cena did a good job “hosting” the show, but I don’t think WWE knows what that means anymore. Cena should’ve gotten to join commentary for the main event at least, not just give us the attendance numbers. And even then, just under 51K is not what I expected, but considering they had 60K last year… Well, WWE never acknowledges failings, so guess they’ll just move on like it’s all good.

Honestly, I think the overall best stuff was in the Women’s Division tonight. Well, I’m still not going to be a fan of Heels needing help to win when they can just cheat on their own, but of course Roxie & Raquel helped Liv out, and that gave Judgment Day their WrestleMania moment together. I feel like Vaquer will/should demand her rematch and we get that for Backlash, but in a match that actually stops Judgment Day from interfering. Great Intercontinental Championship match, though it ended up more about Becky’s beef with Jessica Karr than with AJ Lee. But speaking of Heels cheating on their own, Becky does just that, and boom, she’s champ again. I think that makes her and AJ tied in 1v1, so there’s gotta be a tiebreaker at some point.

And how great to see the Women’s Tag title match bring back Paige. A shame for Nikki and her foot but she at least got to be part of the win. Great ring gear for everyone, too, such as Bliss being a moth to pay tribute to Bray and The Irresistible Forces being Demolition. Can’t wait to see what’s next for Paige & The Bella Twins, but I feel like Paige won’t be on the same page as The Bellas for long if Nikki recovers completely and wants to be champion with Brie. But Paige back in the WWE is great in itself, can’t wait to see where she goes from here.

My Score: 8.8/10
