AEW Plans Second Grand Slam Mexico at Arena Mexico for 2026, Expected Later in Year
AEW is planning a return to Arena Mexico for a second Grand Slam Mexico event in 2026, but sources say the show will be scheduled later in the year than the June date used for the inaugural Grand Slam on June 18, 2025. AEW president Tony Khan had previously indicated a return was likely, though he was unsure of timing, and Dave Meltzer reported the promotion’s 2026 plans will shift away from a June slot.
Meanwhile, CMLL will present its first full solo U.S. event tonight in Las Vegas with CMLL Slam Fest at the Pearl Concert Theater, featuring a late card change that now sees Mistico teaming with Templario against Hechicero and Angel de Oro, and Claudio Castagnoli facing Atlantis Jr. The full Wrestling Observer Newsletter has additional details on both events.

Sting Praises Darby Allin After AEW World Title Win
Darby Allin captured the AEW World Title on the April 15 episode of AEW Dynamite, defeating MJF, and was given a ringside pep talk by Sting before the match that closed with, “It’s not showtime. It’s your time.” The moment set the tone for Allin’s breakthrough performance and signaled a passing-of-the-torch feel to the title change.
In newly released footage, Sting said he was proud of Allin’s victory and likened the younger star to a son, praising his resilience and growth as a performer. The veteran emphasized that this was Allin’s moment, underscoring the emotional weight of the win for both men.
